The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the parasites of humans and animals, focusing on the study of protozoan, helminth, and arthropod parasites. It will explore these parasites through various lenses, including morphology, taxonomy, life histories, and host-parasite interactions. The course will also integrate broader topics such as parasite community structure, biogeography, the evolution of host-parasite relationships, and epidemiology and spread of diseases, offering students a well-rounded and multidisciplinary understanding of parasitology. This course will examine the general principles of parasitology providing a foundational understanding of how parasites interact with their hosts, evolve, and impact ecosystems.
