This course provides an evidence-based foundation in literacy instruction grounded in scientific research. Students will explore how reading develops through explicit instruction, discover why literacy proficiency is essential for learning across content areas, and understand how to support diverse learners in developing strong literacy skills. Topics include reading research, language development, the sequence of learning to read, the essential components of effective reading instruction, and research-based approaches supporting literacy development from early childhood through adolescence.
